The revised research plan is where you will describe how
you will occupy the niche you identified in the literature review. Spend
some time reviewing how the literature review sections transition into
methodology sections of the student research papers we have read this
term, and then decide on a method most appropriate for your topic. We
will talk extensively about the methods section of your paper in class
over the next few meetings.
The Task: Write a planning document that outlines the following:
1) Your research question: Write a paragraph describing your question
and how you arrived at that question. Remember, your question may have
changed since you first started your project. Use sources from your
literature review to describe your niche.
2) The data you plan to collect to answer the question--ie, who you plan to study.
3) How you will go about doing that research. Be as specific as possible
about the number of research subjects, how the research subjects will
be chosen, and what you will do (interview, survey, observation, focus
group, and so on).
My research question analyzes university students perspectives on how well they were prepared by their private or public school educators to think creatively. Initially I wanted to compare which education system, public or private, prepared university students better when thinking creatively however after doing my research on the topic I realized where the gap in the field existed. It would be nearly impossible to conduct a study which gave enough support and evidence to prove that either public or private education better fostered creative thinkers and because of this it was vital that I reroute my research. Understanding how well university students feel they were prepared to think creatively at the university level was a more reachable question of which i could provide more accurate results.
ReplyDeleteI plan to study students at UCF who were either educated at a public or private school in middle and high school. The students I will collect my data from must attend UCF and be enrolled in classes currently in order to get the most uniform results. Any age or grade level UCF student is eligible to be a research student as long as they were at either a public or private school (not both) for the duration of their middle and high school years.
In gathering my data to address my new research question I will interview and provide a questionnaire to 20 UCF students who meet my qualifications. The questionnaire and interview will both be brief and will ask the same questions to all subjects. 10 of the 20 students must have attended private school and the other 10 must have attended public school. The questionnaire will let me know to what degree the students felt prepared for their college classes creatively and the interview questions provide me with personal commentary from each subject regarding their experience with creative thinking in their public or private education.
My research question analyzes why and how conformity of the dominant culture impacts our lives consciously and unconsciously. At first, I had no idea what my research question was going to be because the main point that I wanted my readers to see was how conformity has affected their life negatively with the conscious decisions that they do every day. I also hoped that by the end of my research they would realize those conformity ideas were not good for them and that they should learn to integrate new ideas in with their old ideals to let them work together. However as I delved more into my research, I found that it can also be unconscious things that can be considered conformity as well, but we would never realize it because we’ve been so used to doing it in our lives that we don’t even think of it being a conformity issue. So I not only want to focus on the conscious conformity decisions that we make, but slightly the unconscious conformity decisions that we do as well. My end goal of my research paper is still the same: to awaken people from the conformity cloud and help them to be their own person.
ReplyDeleteI plan to interview students at UCF to find out how conformity has affected their lives. I plan on getting them each from a different grade level to analyze how over the years of their schooling they came to their current ideals in life and how they work around conformity of the main culture to try to fit it into their life. I chose to do an interview because I don’t want another student’s answers to affect another’s answer when responding to the interview questions. The only requirement I need from the student is that they are from an ethnic background who practice their family origin’s traditions.
To gather my data, I’m hoping to get qualitative data from eight students to answer my interview questions. I plan to ask students in my classes and around campus and describe my research study to them to see if they are interested. If they are interested, I will let them sign the consent form and set up a date and time for the interview to take place. The interview will allow the students to expand on their explanation (if they feel the need to) and it will provide me with first hand experiences of the student which can give better examples to back up some of my sources.
The research I am performing on my paper is to support the idea that social norms play apart in the perspective of females in the military. The question I wanted to ask transformed from giving an argument that females should fight in combat to why they haven’t been able to in the first place. This gives my research a deeper meaning and therefore more to research. I am allowed to really look at the origin of the female outlook in the military instead of just skimming the surface. Changing my question also given me more interest in my topic as I look at different surveys previous researchers have conducted.
ReplyDeleteIn order to fully explain my research question on the social norms that effect female perspective in the military, I will have to conduct a study on military personnel. Female soldier will be working with mainly military personnel and therefore, their perspective is most relevant. University of Central Florida veterans will be surveyed with the only criteria is being previously apart of military service. Since a university is full of veterans, it will be easy to find people to survey for my study. I want to use a survey because it is quick and easy for anyone to do and I will be able to get more results.
As being a veteran myself, I will be able to spend time in the Veterans Resource Center where I can ask students who walk in for assistance. Since most of the time veterans are waiting for papers to be process, it will be easy to fill out a quick ten question survey determining their perspective on female soldiers. I will ask thirty students, fifteen female and fifteen male in order to compare the both genders. The question will focus on certain social norms and if they do still exist in our military branches. All ages and all amounts of prior service will be accepted and preferred due to more accurate results within the bigger picture of the military.
My research question has to do with the analysis of how the dispersal of salaries in professional sports, specifically Major League Baseball, effects the success of franchises both in the regular season and in the playoffs. When I began, I was unsure of the direction that I wanted to go in because I love sports but wasn’t sure how I could translate that passion into an informative paper. I then came up with the question that I wanted to ask, but only had the rough idea of including all professional sports into one paper to see how different salaries effected different franchises in different sports. However, after careful deliberation with myself, I decided to go in the direction of Major League Baseball because it is the one sport that has no cap on the amount of money each franchise can pay its players. So, after coming to that conclusion I began to delve deep into the history of the MLB, its winning teams and how they went about paying their players. My hope is that by the end of the paper the readers will understand how teams in baseball allocate funds to their players and what it means to the success of the teams in the sport.
ReplyDeleteI plan to not only survey students on campus about what they think about the salaries in baseball, but to get an idea of what they think about the salary of other sports as well to get a bigger picture of what people think about professional sports funding as a whole. I chose to do a survey because I wanted a short response to preset questions. I would like to interview athletes that are anticipating going into professional sports however, there is no requirement for the people that I survey. With my data, I plan on surveying twenty-five to fifty people and adding a chart to my paper to represent the research as well as a paragraph that describes what the surveying means. I anticipate asking members of the UCF community all across campus, from my classes to my living community. If they are willing to participate in the survey, I will provide them with a consent form, though I don’t anticipate using any information from those who I surveyed. The survey will be a support to the data that I collect from online sources.
The question I will be exploring is whether or not employers are creating an unfair standard by expecting creativity from their employees as we move into the Conceptual Age, but restricting these employees’ creative freedom. Initially I was investigating whether or not employers are looking for a more creative skill set rather than computational skills, but that answer became obviously true. My current research question is an investigation of a gap in creativity expectations in the workplace. According to Cunnings and Oldham, it is impossible for employees to act creatively if the workplace doesn’t foster creativity. This is the gap I am investigating.
ReplyDeleteThrough my interview I plan to obtain information of how creativity is fostered in the workplace and to what extent creativity is measured in the hiring process. I want to find out how much creativity is required compared to how much creative freedom is allowed.
I plan to interview Siemens engineering firm to ask these questions, and may call a two or three other corporations. I will choose business firms that are appealing to degree holding college students. The availability of these firms may be a problem, but with persistence should get at least two interviews to compare. I am going to inquire to what extent creativity is assessed during the hiring process, what is done to promote creativity in the workplace, and how creativity is exhibited in the work environment.

ReplyDeleteMy research question involves how well someone know another person through observations and understanding the body languages. As well, I plan to research how the body language can aids in reading a person mental and emotional state of mind, even to people who are close with each other. My initial thought was how the subconscious message can be display through the body language. In order words, while people hide various forms of emotions within themselves (sad, anger, jealousy, etc.) they really do not conceit the feelings one hundred percent in their body language. My first idea lead me to research on how emotions and body language can correlate with each other. From my first research I move more into the hidden emotions that people tend to hides and let slip away in their mind. However, I found that even if a person is unconsciously unaware of his/her own feelings, the body language can express that feelings through their body-Kinesics.
Since my research is about the unspoken words, I thought of using couples as the subject of experiments. However, as I take a broader sense of research (understanding a person through body languages) I’ve decided to take a broader test subjects as well. Of course I understand that everyone will have their own bias view of the subject, considering ethics, cultural and characteristic wise on reading another person. My plan to collect informations for my research is to use a test experiments. To further elaborate, I will mix match bodies and faces of different emotions and stages (e.g. angry body/happy face, happy body/sad face) and interview 20 random people. The subjects will be given at most five questions consisting of one or two answer, like such “what do you think he is feeling right now? Sad? Happy?”, “Do you think you would approach this person?”, “If he/she was your friend, would you ask him what is wrong?” etc. Since I want to eliminate the gap as much as possible (ethics, cultural, gender, age, etc.) I will pick participants by random. However, I will also have a form made, comprises general questions (ages, sex, and ethics), therefore still allowing me to hold my boundaries of my test subject.
The primary focus for my research project is the animal rights movement. I read many scholarly articles depicting the progression of the movement throughout the years. My concern was that I’ve observed how people completely ignore or even change channels when a PSA or other informational videos come on the television. My initial concern is why people choose to ignore topics on animal welfare? Researchers such as Charles Atkin and Bernard Rollin suggest that people are not connected to the issue, they don’t see how it pertains to them, and thus they choose to ignore it. My final research question is “what types of media generate the most desired response from the public concerning animal rights”.
ReplyDeleteTo answer my question, I decided to first research ways in which the public responds positively to information they are given. I then want to use the strategies I learned from my sources and put them into practice. I want to find out what type of media gets the targeted audience to respond the best. I plan to have two focus groups of five UCF students.
I am choosing UCF students because they are the easiest to gain access to. They are also very involved in society, but also have limitations to how much they can participate because their budgets are usually tight. I plan to ask the people in the groups background questions about their life with animals, how they were educated on the matter, and what their current views are. I will then show them multiple videos based on animal rights. After each video, we will discuss what they thought about the video. At the very end, we will discuss the videos again and see what they suggest that could have helped them, or if they changed their minds on any subjects.

ReplyDelete1) RESEARCH QUESTION
“How does the psychology behind effect our lives?”
My original question related to how we can apply the psychological skills that are linked to acting methods into our lives. However, I decided to not necessarily dumb down the question, but to make it more relatable. This is because not everyone has spent time attaining or strengthening many of the skills related to acting. Because this question is slightly broader than the original, I feel that it makes for a topic that can be mentally digested by a larger audience.
2) DATA COLLECTION PLAN
The data I plan to collect will apply to the more recreational side of the question. I want to know if and how my fellow actors have seen their personal lives change in correlation to their own mindset as they have developed as actors. I will ask for data inquiring as to whether or not this correlation can be appropriately tied to causation.
3) INQUIREY DETAILS
Ten participants will be asked a series of questions through a written survey. I will allow each question to be answered in the format of a free response. Each participant will be chosen relating to the acting style they most commonly affiliate with. Though their backgrounds in acting will differ, each participant will be asked the same set of questions.
1. Originally, I wanted to explore how gender and race play a factor in whether a person is for or against the Stand Your Ground Laws. This question then took me in a different direction and I started to explore the socioeconomic factors that can contribute to how a person perceives this law. The socioeconomic factors would have been difficult to measure, but I knew that political affiliation had to be the gap between socioeconomics and their perceptions. Upon research of that, I finally arrived at my research question.
ReplyDeleteResearchers have studied the existence of perceived issues of legality and race in the Stand Your Ground Law, but their research does not support other factors. Since this controversial issue is relatively modern, there has not been extensive research committed on the topic. With the proliferation of modern media environments, media has reached Americans cross-country. This question analyzes factors other than race and legality that contributes to a person’s perception on SYG laws through the introduction of the influence through the media. More specifically, is media bias a factor in how people perceive Stand Your Ground?
2 and 3. I plan to distribute several questionnaires based on two articles dealing with the issue of SYG and the Trayvon Martin case from two news outlets- one conservative in nature and one liberal. I would like to keep my sample space to around 4 or 5 people in order to have a focus group. Upon completing the questionnaire, I would like to evaluate their responses and their potential perceived biases with them to better obtain qualitative analyses through the eyes of those exposed to media. I would like to distribute these questionnaires to college students because they are readily exposed to media and have not had quite the time to develop their own ideologies except those that they were raised with. This will exemplify if media bias is a factor in how people view Stand Your Ground.
My research question concerns the effectiveness of animal rights propaganda in the media. After bearing witness to a graphic and heart wrenching commercial on TV, I wondered what animal rights activists and organizations could do to improve their advertisements and prevent people from avoiding them. According to several academic journals addressing the same issue, the effectiveness of an animal rights campaign depends on the implementation of common-sense strategies, increasing of awareness, and the strengthening of communities' relationships with the animal welfare movement (Burger; Munro).
ReplyDeleteMy ultimate goal is to see how people respond when subject to such advertisements. I plan to incorporate students from UCF into a focus group to spur a conversation about what they think makes an animal rights ad successful. After exposing them to several animal rights advertisements, both printed and televised, a series of questions will be asked regarding the material they had just witnessed. As far as the selection of participants go, age, gender, and race are not factors relevant to one's ability to participate. Five to seven students from UCF will be invited to participate in the voluntary study, since they will be more accessible and will become aware of the study's intentions prior to their participation.
When I first started my research my question was about finding factors that contribute to the communication barrier between males and females and how to diminish these factors. What I found upon researching this was that many people have already identified factors that cause the communication gap between genders from a lot of different angles, but very little of this research was based on modern day technology and romantic movies. A lot of the research I looked into says that the communication gap begins at a young age before adolescence when children are learning to interact and continues to grow throughout a person’s life, but in my paper I will explore why romantic movies and romantic ideals have caused both genders to have unrealistic expectations for the opposite gender and how that causes an even larger widening in the communication gap. Another factor I will explore is how texting and other technology influences communication between genders, as Lori Schade shows in her piece called “Using Technology To Connect In Romantic Relationships: Effects On Attachment, Relationship Satisfaction, And Stability In Emerging Adults,” males and females both expect different satisfactions when using technology as a way of communication. One last factor I will look into is how the modern day hippie error influences the way males and females view relationships and why that has a negative or positive influence on communication between genders.
ReplyDeleteIn collecting my data I will use five different couples who are in a committed relationship in college. I will observe these couples and how they interact with (1) each other, (2) genders of the opposite sex in general, and (3) genders of the same sex. After analyzing these observations I will ask each person a series of interview questions that will help me to better show how males and females view communication differently from one another and why that occurs.

ReplyDeleteQuestion: How has the effect of crime depiction on society changed with the development of new technology?
1. My Research Question
My current research question for this project has evolved over the last couple of weeks, where it originally began with the effect of change over the years and the effects of different crime programming. Over the course of my research, I found that many of the sources that I had read conducted their methods by mostly textual analysis of newspapers and/or images, and comparison of those findings to actual crime rates and/or levels of fear. Nearly all of my sources had agreed that crime depiction in the media can persuades members of society feel and act in various ways, depending highly on how it is presented (Surette; Wardle; Herda-Rapp; Rhineberger-Dunn; Kort-Butler & Sittner; Chermak; Bolahanis & Hestley). Something that I had found interesting was how some of the sources seemed to connect a, in what I term, to be a ‘domino-effect’ relationship between crime depiction, the public in social disorder, and the authorities attempting to fix it. More specifically, Ray Surette, a Professor in Criminal Justice, and researcher in the effects of media framing of crime on society at the University of Central Florida, gave an example of an established policy due to social disorder in his book: “Hence, today we have ‘Megan’s Law’ and ‘Amber Alerts’ due to massive publicity of a heinous crime and its innocent victim” (3). Another major discussion found among my sources was the overrerpoting of violent crime and the depiction of many of these criminals as violent and “predatory”, as well as combining present stories with past similar stories to bring in a wider audience. In Wardle’s analysis of news images of child murder cases during the 1930s, 1960s, and 1990s, she gives an example of how Roy Whiting was depicted as “predatory” in an image after being accused of murdering Sarah Payne: “This extreme close-up, showing him straining his neck, almost makes him look as if he is ready to make his escape” (274).
Through my review of the previous research done in this line of inquiry, there seems to be very much of a focus from the mediums of newspapers and developing news television, where none of the scholars seem to address the new mediums of technology that has developed over recent decades. There also seems to be a lack of a focus on the possible differing effects on older and newer generations of people. People in the older generation have had access to the classic forms of news mediums, such as newspapers, radios reports, and newscasts of their time, and people in the younger generation have only had access to the more modern forms of media.
2. The data I plan to collect/Who I plan to study
ReplyDeleteFor my primary research study, I plan to use two focus groups: people in the older generation (ages 60-80), and people in the younger generation (ages 18-30). There will be no more than four people in each group, with an equal amount of males and females in each group (2 males, 2 females in each group). The data that I plan to collect in this research study is how crime depiction through the new forms of technology/newscasts impact the people ages 60-80 (older generation) and ages 18-30 (younger generation) psychologically and sociologically, and the possible difference in impact between these two generations of age ranges. My goal in collecting these results is to be able to conclude on whether or not crime depiction in the media continues to be a problem in society, as found in previous studies.
3. How I will go about doing this research
ReplyDeleteMy initial planned method in conducting this study is to have both focus groups (4 people each, 2 male, 2 female) watch four newscasts for three recent high profile crimes (four newscasts for each crime). These newscasts are split evenly upon category of presentation: 2 news sources (CNN, ABC News), and 2 infotainment sources (HLN). My plan for this method in conducting the study is to see if there is difference in the way the subjects are impacted psychologically and/or sociologically depending on the source of the crime depiction, given that infotainment is generally more recent than actual news sources. After having all of the subjects watch the clips, I will then interview them (either as a group or individually) with five prepared questions tailored to each case as well as questions to tie the elements of the study together, and to collect specific data about the depiction: possible skepticism, effects of objectivity, and levels of fear. I will organize all of the data collected from this research study into tables: one table for each focus group and the high profile case they were interviewed about (part one of the study), and one table for each internet source and focus group (part two of the study).
In selecting the subjects for my research study, I decided to ask those whom I already have a personal relationship with due to time constraints. I chose subjects for the older generation focus group based on my knowledge of how aware they are of all the crime shown in the news. For the younger generation focus group, I decided to include subjects that were closer to my age and maybe attending college at this time. All of the subjects in this focus group are very close to my age, and all are pursuing different degrees of study. Although this factor was unintentional, I concluded that this diversity of studies could possibly contribute to the results of my study. When the requested subjects agreed to participate in the study, I wrote their full names down in my plan and will change them in organizing responses to protect their privacy.
In developing the focus groups for my study, I decided to use people in the older generation (ages 60-80) because I hypothesize that subjects in this age range will tend to be more naïve with what they see in crime depiction through new forms of newscasts given that they have had more access to the classic forms of crime depiction, such as through newspapers and radio reports. By including the younger generation (ages 18-30), I hypothesize that subjects in this age range will tend to be more skeptical with what they see in crime depiction through new forms of newscasts given that they have had more access to modern these forms and are more aware of the technology used behind the production of news images and stories, such as photo editing software.
3rd paragraph edit:
DeleteIn developing the focus groups for my study, I decided to use people in the older generation (ages 60-80) because I hypothesize that subjects in this age range will tend to have more trouble distinguishing accurate and modifies coverage in new forms of newscasts given that they have had more access to the classic forms of crime depiction, such as through newspapers and radio reports.

My research question why is it that though things seem to be looking up (in the past 30 years or so) with the gender stereotyping and inequality of women in the workplace, there is still a disconnect with the stereotype and the way employees and employers see women?. At first I wanted to focus on just stereotyping of women in general, but after realizing how broad of a topic that would be and after doing some research on the topic I realized there was a lot on stereotypes in the workplace. I then realized the gap in the field was why things weren’t working after programs being implemented to “help”.
ReplyDeleteI plan to study students with jobs and possibly faculty at UCF and ask about their jobs and if they ever felt a gender inequality and why that might be. The students I will collect my data from must attend UCF and be enrolled in working currently or have worked in the past n order to get the most uniform results. Any age or grade level UCF student is eligible to be a research student as long as they experienced a workplace.
In gathering my data to address my new research question I will interview and provide a questionnaire to 20 UCF students who meet my credentials. The questionnaire and interview will both be brief and will ask the same questions to all subjects. The questionnaire will let me know to what qualities are sought after in managerial positions and who they believe play a fit role and the interview questions provide me with personal explanations from each subject regarding their experience workplace stereotyping.
My research question has shifted to analyze the misconceptions people have concerning charities. At first, my topic was to identify the motivations behind charitable giving. Upon further analysis of the subject, the incentives behind donating can surface an unrecognized and an unethical dilemma which are moral principles. More thoroughly, I was going to examine people’s opinions about whether they thought donating to an animal charity before a human benefit charity is unethical. However, as I commenced my research I had little to no luck finding information about that specific topic. Therefore, I have decided to focus on people’s reluctance to donate to these non-profit organizations due to common false impressions. Potential donors fail to realize the importance overhead charges have on charities. Several overhead expenses of charities include the staff, technology and office space. Without these essential necessities charities would struggle trying to make revenue. "If you didn't have those pieces, you wouldn't be able to have a program. It's meaningless at best and destructive at worst” (qtd. in Perry). In addition to this topic having more supplements, many people can identify more with this topic in comparison to the ethics in donating to certain charities.
ReplyDeleteI plan to analyze and dissect many scholarly journals to help get my feet wet in the topic. From there, I will be conducting a series of four surveys spread out among four months. These surveys will be posted on Facebook and Twitter for people to answer to. They will be anonymous and only the age of each participant will show. The surveys will be approximately 10 questions long. I will also analyze the content of charitable giving commercials such as those of the ASPCA and children’s hunger. This will be a very minor part in my research paper. Nonetheless, I think it will be a very interesting part to see if people find the pathos of commercials an incentive to donate. In addition to the analysis of commercial, I will research the specific websites of the commercials I have listed above as well as examine scholarly journals about donating to charities. I also plan on interviewing some of the survey participants as well as making a focus group. Having already begun my research, I received a response indicating their concern, “I read too much on how charity funds get "lost", so it's hard for me to donate with full confidence. I have no way of knowing if it’s going to the right cause or being misused and unaccounted for.” This response directly correlates with my new research topic. My only concern is the age demographic that will be answering these surveys. Since my surveys will be posted on social media websites I will be getting a much younger age demographic, perhaps many will not be avid donors whereas an older age demographic is familiar with donating.

ReplyDeleteThe question that I am focusing on in my project is how Disney Princess movies have influenced feminine identity. For the most part, most Disney movies have been viewed as conveying negative messages to and about women. Since a new movie has been added to the princess collection, I want to extend the conservation and see if the message has changed. Especially since this new movie has been very successful in theatres. I choose Princess Movies and how they affect women because today’s culture encourages girls to be princesses but as Whelan points out it’s the princes who are given strong characteristics whereas the princesses are not.
ReplyDeleteIn order to answer the question I want to analyze Disney Princess Movies to see what characteristics have or have not changed since the first movie. I want to compare physical appearance, job, how they became princesses, who defeats the villain, the romance storyline and intelligence from what lines they are given. I also want to conduct a survey to test what characteristics people have learned to associate with princesses and princes and where they associate that knowledge from. So I will ask what people imagine a princess or prince to look like and how they act. From the results I will try to determine if the answers are similar and why, and if overall who (prince or princess) has more positive characteristics. Plus will the physical description portray their favorite character or the most used characteristics by Disney or themselves?
In order to analyze the movies, I am going to create a chart to be able to record information as I am watching the movies in order to show comparison. For the survey, I want to use 10 people, 5 male and 5 female that I can find on campus that can answer the questions. For half of my subjects I want them to have seen the latest movie and the other half to have not seen it. That way I can try to determine if the latest movie has had any effect on how people answer the questions.

ReplyDeleteResearch Question
“How does media impact the way we see political scandals?”
After having researched the field of politics I found that not many of the articles account for what I believe to be the biggest game changer, which is the media. After having studied 200 local, and state officials arrests one author was able to conclude “both corruption and corruption control contribute to the contemporary crisis in public administration” (Anechiarico 4). In my research I aimed to figure out not only how voters were affected by scandals, but also what could make them change their views of a certain case.
Data collection
When conducting my research I want to interview current UCF students. I believe this will provide me with the most relevant information to my question. Furthering my research I hope to interview Political Science majors at UCF who have a better understanding of politics, as this understanding of politics is necessary in order to comprehend how the media could impact their views.
Inquiry details
For my research question I believe a survey is the best way to collect information. I plan to ask questions that will make students think about the ways their vote was swayed (or not) by media outlets such as Fox News, CNN, HLN, or NBC. The survey will include 10 questions, some of which will be a short answer, while others will rely on an index scale to judge their perception of how much media impacts politics.

My research question analyzes if college athletics has made universities a business instead of a educational facility by exploiting their athletes. Upon walking into the UCF bookstore, one can see that there is a lot of sports memorabilia and among them, the most popular number five football jersey. Almost anyone will instantly recognize this as Blake Bortles. No matter how many jerseys are sold, which is his image minus the name on the back, Bortles will receive nothing. Authors like Kaburakis, analyze how the NCAA uses this veil of amateurism to profit so much money to use the images of the athletes. While Matzkin, explores the extent of the market and how companies like EA Inc. use the player’s images for the video game industry. The opposing side, argues the value of the free education players will receive and how negatively affected and unfair college athletics would become. Being that the public opinion matters so much In this issue, I plan on creating a focus group of people with substantial experience on the subject and interviewing them. I want to further and diversify surveys taken by authors like Mondello et al. I also want to explore the question: if nothing can be done for the athlete’s image while they play for the college, upon graduation if their image is used, why they are not getting paid then? For the research, I will conduct interviews with Jim Maciag (Former Purdue Linebacker and High School Football Coach), John Guy (Former UNC Defensive Back and NFL/College Coach and GM), Ray Sherman (Former Georgia Receiver and NFL/College Wide Receiver Coach), Shawn Trent (Former Kent St. Fullback and College/High School Coach), Anthony Little-John (Former Mississippi St. Linebacker and High School Coach), and Mike Fox (Former West Virginia Defensive End and NFL Player). If I am unable to talk to them in person or via phone, I have created a series of interview questions that they can fill out on their own time.

ReplyDeleteThe Influence of the Ideal Body Image in the Media
My research question aims to explore the relationship between various attitudes and behaviors and perceptions of the media; To what extent has media affected your life? I arrived at this question because I have long been inquisitive on the topic of how media content reflects and constructs social reality and the sense of self. Additionally, I have experienced others, as well as myself, that have come directly into contact with this matter.
This inquiry is directed toward individuals 18 years of age to 25. These individuals will be twenty UCF students, both male and female, of all nationalities. First, they will be introduced to the study. This includes risks and benefits, and if they want to participate, they will sign an informed consent form prior to filling out the study survey. Participation is completely voluntary and participants can decide to withdraw from the study at any time without penalty. If they consent to participation, they may be given research credits (units) as determined by (me) the instructor. No other reward (monetary or otherwise) will be provided for participation. Next, they will be asked to fill out a packet of surveys and observe a slideshow of images, and it will take approximately 30 minutes. Some people need more or less time, but I will ask of them to please read each question carefully. I will request that they do not put their name on any of the questionnaires – only on the consent forms. When they have completed the packet of questionnaires, they will return the packet and the informed consent form. Then, I will separate the consent form from the rest of the packets. That way their responses will be kept confidential. When they return their informed consent form and questionnaire packet, they will also be given a Debriefing Form that further explains the purpose of the study and lists contact information and appropriate resources. Their survey packet will have a participant number on it, but it will only be matched to the number on their consent form if they wish to be removed from the study and have their data/survey destroyed. The surveys and consent forms will be kept in separate files, safe with me. Their responses will not be linked to their name. As I further consider other approaches to this issue I wonder if I should can incorporate Before and After surveys..
My research question: To what extent do the effects of birth order on siblings stay with them into adulthood?
ReplyDeleteI came about my research question by personal experience. I am the youngest of three siblings, as well as the only girl. As I grew into an adult I have noticed that my family always looked at me as the most naïve still. I also began to notice that I would think of myself of being naïve about things outside of my family as well. I then began to look at friends of mine who were in a different ranking within siblings to see if there were any connections to stereotypical birth order effects and the friend’s personalities as adults. So, I then began to question how far these birth order effects we experience as kids carry with us in our personality for the rest of our lives. I plan to study men and women around the ages of college students, as well as older adults who may already have children of their own. I will only be looking at subjects that have 2 or more siblings as to focus on certain aspects that only children and two children households may not have. At first I was going to create a survey, but have decided to go with the interview process because I could get more specific answers and stories, as well as get a feel for my subject’s personality; which is something a survey may not show. I will ask my subjects basic personality questions, as well as ask them about their siblings, and experiences within their family growing up and now. I will analyze these answers and make connections to their ranking in the family birth order. My ultimate goal is to find a group of siblings from one family and interview them all, but that may be a little more difficult to find.
My research questions will be aiming to discover if there are still health disparities happening towards the LGBT community, which are they, and what changes do LGBT members think that could be made in order to better the healthcare provided to them. I found some articles and studies regarding this topic of health disparities in LGBT communities, and their conclusions were that more research is needed in order to support the claims made by LGBT members that there should be changes in healthcare providers because of the discrimination and mistreat that they have unfortunately received. Another topic that I would like to address is how medical schools are working with the lack of knowledge doctors and healthcare professionals show when they have to work with LGBT patients. My primary targets are LGBT members that are students in UCF, members that have already graduated (older population), and I will also try to contact someone form the UCF School of Medicine to see if there is something about LGBT health in their curriculum.
ReplyDeleteIn order to achieve the goals of my research, I will first do a survey that will include an option to participate in a post survey that could be a one-on-one conversation or a focus group depending on how many people would like to participate. The purpose of this research is to help erase the current lack of research and information about this very specific subject. Hopefully I will make an impact on medical schools, hospitals and LGBT patients with the long-run goal to better their treatment in healthcare settings.
My preliminary research question was how does women’s gymnastics affect the viewing of other Olympic sports? However, after researching many articles, I found an interesting trend in the types of coaches training female gymnasts. All the coaches were male, this showed a lack of female participation in leading roles. Women’s mindset are placed under two categories; Difference feminism and equal feminism. Unfortunately, the majority of women fall under difference feminism which does not allow them to go out and compete for leading positions in jobs. Certain stereotypes arise, such as men define excellence and because of that stigma, women tend to refrain from challenging that title because they know they will not be taken seriously.
ReplyDeleteI have created an interview that is intended for two female coaches. One is a gymnastics coach and the other is a soccer coach. The interview will determine how these female coaches handle these stereotypes and what did they have to do to get this position. I have also created an opinion based survey in the sense that 20-30 UCF students will have to choose between two individuals they prefer to be coached by. The survey will also have an explaining portion on why you chose this individual in order to see whether gender plays a role in coaching preference. I will post the survey online on Facebook, and I will print out several copies and hand them to athletes on campus. The survey and the interview will enable me to analyze how stereotypes and different perspectives hinder the motivation of females.
The final direction of research is I will be evaluating the history and anthropology of tattoos and how they developed a negative stigma, while also evaluating why there is a negative stigma and how it affects those in the tattoos community. With the research I have chosen to do, I also want to project the future of tattoos, based of how much tattoos have developed in the nineteenth century. An important statistic for this part of my research is tied off of in the 1950s, 0.5% of the population had tattoos (ages 18-39), then the amount of tattoos grew to about 40% in 2007. The way I arrived at this question was, by reading over all of my sources, hearing opinions from others such as parents, or people in a different generation, and seeing the increasing trend of tattoos changed my track of research from how the negative stigma affects those in the tattoo community, but also how it will affect those in the future.
ReplyDeleteI plan to study several different groups of people, including: classmates, those of different ethnicities, religious affiliations, ages, genders, and also tattoo artists. Getting information from such a broad spectrum of people will allow me to see how the stigma of tattoos have affected people socially but also in the work place. Being able to evaluate these results that I hope to get will allow me to look at issues from all different angles.
I will choose the people in my study by gender and age. I will ask people I know and try to pick people with different ethnicities and points of views. I will survey between 20-30 people. To interview tattoo artists I want to be able to go to their shop and have a one on one interview with them, which will allow me to get detailed information.
RESEARCH QUESTION
ReplyDeleteAt the beginning of my project my research question was determined and in stone: Why has the hip hop culture changed? However, throughout my research into my subject of the history of hip hop, it has come to develop into something else: How has the hip hop culture changed? what I have read in all of my scholarly reports is of the change in the music, the message, the style, etcetera. However there is no proof of these things. This leads me to my data collection method.
DATA COLLECTION
My method of data collection will be by having a fill-in-the-blank questionnaire where random students will answer questions about which hip hop artists they listen to and their favorite songs. From those answers I will research the lyrics of the five most popular songs.
DATA INQUIRY
From analysis of the lyrics I will observe the actual change in the lyrical content and message of which is being spoken of and outraged about in these articles.
My research question looks to explore the ethical implications of artificial intelligence in robotics. The question has since transformed from the beginning about technology in general and the effects on labor jobs, to more about the rising important of ethical issues around technology, specifically with robotics. A big gap in my research I noticed, had to deal with the psychology behind people’s interactions with artificial intelligence and robotics. Since the issue is very much a social issue about ethics, I felt this was an important area to dive into. My primary research plan is to survey the current generation of college’s students and analyze their views regarding the ethics surrounding the technology in today’s society. I want to look into how to people handle devices making decisions for them and do they trust machines being in control of certain things. Also what most people want may not necessarily be what they need, or what is best for everyone. Choosing the values that robotics will have to work for everyone will be the most difficult gap to fill. I plan on using a survey since it is a very simple and easy way for people to give their input and to gather data. My main focus is to see the general trends and comfort levels people have with privacy, technology, and their trust on machines. Since I am very involved with technology as a personal hobby, and for my major Information Technology, I know the questions to ask and how to gather information in the field. I will put together a quick online survey using Google Forms and get 20 volunteers. My focus will be on UCF students mainly for convenience, but also due to our generation’s daily use and dependence on technology. This survey I believe will allow me to better understand the common areas of concern and comfort among my fellow peers.
ReplyDeleteThe question of my research is based of the evolution and attitudes of same sex marriage and homosexuality. I am trying to figure out why the attitudes have drastically changed from about four to five decades ago when it was in heard of or not talked about to same sex marriage being in the public spotlight and media almost every day. I arrived at this topic since I am homosexual myself and this is a subject and matter that I want to be changed for the better. My question has not really changed from the beginning but has changed its focus a little more to why the actual attitudes and beliefs are changing. What in the persons life or their environment have made them change or stay the same. I plan to conduct a survey questionnaire to see what the peoples attitudes and beliefs are also with some other demographics to maybe make some sort of judgement. The survey is about ten questions with additional space for the persons age, gender, political view and religious view if they would like to answer those questions. Some of these questions will be crucial in finding out information which cause people to have these attitudes and beliefs. I want to collect at least 50 questionaries but have a goal of 100 to make it more of a solid survey. I know the results may be somewhat biased since it will only be done in the south which is usually categorized as being anti homosexual. To do a survey to yield solid results one would need to survey the whole country with all areas and all types of people to be surveyed. I do not have the time, material, money and a way to do something like that without the help of an organization. The survey should only take about five minutes and I plan to just ask random people on campus and in my town to complete a quick and short survey on their beliefs and attitudes of same sex marriage and homosexuality.
ReplyDeleteWhen I originally began my project, I planned on researching dental fear/anxiety and its contributing factors. As I continued my studies, I found that many of the factors that contribute to dental fear/anxiety are things such as noises caused by the drill, having to wait in the reception area, or dental relationships such as the the doctor and the patient having a poor relationship (Muppa). Upon reviewing my research, I noticed that the majority of the research put into dental fear/anxiety focuses on the external contributing factors. Much of the research neglects the personal aspect of dental fear, such as a child who fears a dental visit because he/she knows that they have had poor oral habits and do not want to hear the dentist tell them that the need to floss and brush their teeth. In addition, a teenager may fear a dental visit because they do not want the dentist to see that they have been smoking and fear that the dentist would tell their parents. I hope to dive into this question and wish to find a deeper understanding of the personal side of dental fear and how it plays into dental fear as a whole. I hope to be able to see how the personal and external factors compare, and which outweighs the other. In order to further my research, I plan to conduct interviews of people who have recently been on dental visits and can recall their experiences. I also plan to interview people who are waiting while at a dental visit and people who have just finished a dental visit. I may also include polls or surveys as additional information and statistics. I want to see how people view dental fear and see whether they believe external or personal disturbances were the dominating factors in their dental fear. I hope to thoroughly discuss the personal aspect of dental fear an hope to find a trend or relationship between these factors, in order to contribute information on how to reduce dental fear in the future. The subjects for my study will include people of various genders, ages, and races. It focuses on people who either have recently been on a dental visit or are currently in a dental visit (perhaps waiting in the reception area). Prior to interviewing the subjects, if appropriate, I would like to observe patients in first person while they wait in the reception area of a dental office. It would help me get a more clear visual of how patients act while they are nervous or fearful. I plan to also interview the dentists themselves and to collect information on their opinions. I could ask what they believe are the dominant factors in a patient's dental fear. They can give a different perspective and can discuss if they can tell when a patient is nervous and how that affects their focus and performance.

My research question focuses on students’ perspectives of mission work and what they see as issues with these trips. I arrived at my question because I am very passionate about mission work. Having said that, nothing always goes as planned and the missionaries who participate aren’t perfect. In trying to identify a gap in the conversation with the sources I had been reading, I saw a reoccurring theme of the authors of the journals. Most of the authors are people who are experienced in the field and who have been long-term missionaries broad. For example, Laura Parker is a missionary in East Asia and has been for years. She writes in her blog describing her experiences, which would be different from a student who goes on short-term trips. While this is important for me in my research, I wanted to get the opinions of the other side of the spectrum.
I plan on collecting most of my data from students in high school and college who aren’t long-term missionaries, but who are involved in short term trips and who identify themselves with the Christian faith. This would give me the insight of the other side of people involved in mission work. I hope to interview about 10-15 students and also have them fill out a questioner so I can have solid statistics. Originally, I was just going to hand out a survey, but in talking to other students, they made clear that I wanted their real in depth opinions not just a one or two word answer on a piece of paper.
The students I will interview must be affiliated with a church because I want the perspective people who identify themselves as true missionaries for Christ. I can interview students here on campus and from congregations in my home town so that I can get a range of answers. If I just interviewed students from one church, they might have all gone on the same trips and experienced similar things.
My research question analyzes heavy metal music and its negative connotation in society. With my research I want to rebuttal the information and provide insight on the positive effects of heavy metal music. In the beginning I was unsure of how I was going to go about this, however with the information I have read, and the lack of recent and accurate studies I think I am able to provide a new way of thinking when it comes to this genre of music. A lot of my sources are from an outsider looking in therefore automatically having an negative opinion on the music.
ReplyDeleteThe data I want to collect will be from the younger generation. Those who are fans of the genre and that will help the rest of society understand the benefits of the genre. I will go about this by sending out a questionnaire that will help give me an overall view on my peers. However, I think I will receive most information from interviews. I want to interview avid heavy metal fans. I know many people who say that this genre of music has saved, changed, or heavily influenced their lives therefore if I share their story it will help change the genres reputation. I want to limit my interviews to about three, because I feel that number is enough to show that they are not just an extraneous circumstances, but its not too many therefore I can be more specific.
1. Research question: “How has the increased cost of attending college affected a students view on their education?”
ReplyDeleteBy asking this question I wanted to see how the rising cost of college education has affected one view on attending college. Originally I wanted to research how advertising has made consumers have unrealistic expectations for products, but I wanted to better relate to my question. Through research I found out that many people are in ten of thousands of debt by the time they finish their degree and are having difficultly finding jobs. My goal is to find out if the cost of college classes motivates students to take full advantage of the courses they are taking.
2&3. I plan on conducting an interview on UCF students because to get a full understanding of a students view I would have to ask open-ended questions. If I were conducting a survey I would not be able to see a students full opinion on the question.
I will conduct my interview on 8 students. I plan on interviewing two students from each class level to see if upper-classmen have a different view than the lower-classmen. I want to be very concise when I conduct my interview making sure I get all of information I need in order to correctly understand my interviewee’s views.

Research Plan Revised
The topic of my research project is one that I found both personal and also a problem that is not really being viewed on in the right light. My research question focuses on student perspective and their understanding of the impact that Ebonics being a part of the educational curriculum. Throughout the process of finding out what I wanted to focus on with the debate of Ebonics and education I realized that many of the articles I read focused on the medias view and that of the experts and very few took into consideration of the students take on this matter. I decided that I wanted t continue on with the discussion of Ebonics and how it can actually be a benefit in the educationally system but I wanted to take it from the students point of view. For my research project, I plan to conduct a series of interviews with high school students from 3 different parts of Orlando. I will be asking these students a series of questions that will focus on the idea of having Ebonics in the curriculum and how it would be a benefit and I will also record these students answers and comments to see if they themselves use any form of Ebonics in their regular speech.
Initially, my research question analyzed the connection between appearance and trust. As I began searching for information, I quickly realized how broad this topic was. I knew that I needed to find a specific niche that I could confine my research to. As I continued my research, I became interested in the topic of appearance and trust in the financial world. After reviewing different scholarly sources, it became clear to me that this topic is full of new discovery. I began brainstorming on how I could add to this ongoing conversation.
ReplyDeleteI plan on targeting 30 college students at UCF. Any student will be allowed to be use in this study. In an interview/survey style of research, I am hoping to uncover how strong the connection between appearance and trust is. After having them sign the consent form, I will ask them questions about themselves, establishing a basic understanding and characterization of this person. After that, I will have them complete a survey that compares different pictures of people and have them rank them on trustworthiness. The faces I use will be based on past research done on trustworthy faces. After the interviews, I will gather the data and make conclusions.
1. The focus of my research project is geared toward the effects of the media on college women's mood. All the research I've found has only been focused on the negative effects such as depression, eating disorder, and anger. I would like to focus on the positive effects. Therefore my research question came out to be, "if the media were to use more average sized models, would college women be more accepting of their body?". Initially I wanted to research, would the companies that advertise using more average size models sell as many products as companies who advertise using thin models? However, it was hard to find research on it and the more I researched the more I became interested in finding the positive effects the advertisements using more average size models would have on college women.
ReplyDelete2. To collect data to answer my question, I plan to study college women. I want to stud only students enrolled at UCF however they can be of varies body sizes as well as women who are exposed to the media and fashion on a regular basis. Preferably, I want to study women who also have an interest in fashion.
3. To gather my data I am going to conduct a focus group. I'm going to have an experimental group as well as a constant group, both of ten women. In the beginning, both groups will take a questionnaire pertaining to their current state of body satisfaction. Then the groups will be separated and given a set of five images each. The experimental group will be given fashion advertisements of full size models with a more average sized figure. The constant group will be given fashion advertisements not containing a model. After the groups have been exposed to all the images, I will then give both groups the questionnaire again about the current state of their body satisfaction as a result of exposure to the images. After collecting the data and comparing the experimental group with the constant group's results, I will be able to determine, if any, the positive effects from the experimental group.
How has digital currency begun to affect the world’s economy today, and how could it potentially affect the future? From this question I plan to analyze how digital currency is starting to shape various monetary transitions in the present and from the results I obtain from my analysis I wish to project multiple future outcomes of digital currency. To do this I plan to take the information I gather about present effects of digital currency and then first assume that popularity of digital currency will fall and attempt to predict what sort of outcome that will have on the economy and then I will assume that the popularity of digital currency will rise and attempt to predict the outcome that will have on the economy.
ReplyDeleteOriginally I had planned to write my research paper on technology and whether or not the growth of technology is truly infinite, but upon looking further into that topic I discovered just how overwhelmingly broad that topic really is. Thus, I sought out a specific technology which I could analyze and I came upon digital currency. Many of my friends are massive advocates of digital currency and know a lot of information about the subject.
To acquire the information I need about digital currency first I will conduct research on various news and opinion articles on the history and progression of digital currency. From this I will gain a background and a sort of foothold for the rest of my research. Once I feel I have a decent understanding of how digital currency originated, how it became what it is today, and what sort of functions it performs in the present I will begin my primary research. Since digital currency is a bit of a niche item today I primarily plan to interview students and adult in more technological majors or careers. I will ask roughly 10-15 different people if digital currency has potentially affected their lives and if so how has it affected their lives. Then I want to ask them about their perspectives of the various potential outcomes of digital currency. I may even gather some of these people into focus groups so that they could share different opinions and ideas among each other about digital currency. In addition to this I want to conduct I special interview with Mike Garber, a friend of mine who has invested greatly into various digital currencies and is now a huge proponent and representative of the digital currency DogeCoin. From him I hope to get a lot of firsthand information about how a modern digital currency is really affecting lives today.
For my research project, I am looking into why schools are pressuring students into careers and majors at such early ages and how that affects them in the long run. I am also researching what influences students in their career and major choices. At first, I wanted to just know why schools were pressuring students to decide on career fields early, but then thought that I wouldn’t be continuing the research. I would only find information that is already there. The long term effects of students that choose careers in 9th grade hasn’t really been discussed so I wanted to further explore that and find out information like if it is beneficial or detrimental to students among other things. I also stumbled on to the second part of my research, which is the influence in career choices. I want to explore the reasons students are choosing certain majors and the influences behind that. The people that I plan to study are college students at the University of Central Florida. College is the time when most students have figured out what they want to study and do with the rest of their lives. By looking at this particular group, I think that I will have great answers and conclusions to the questions that I am asking. For my research, I want to conduct both surveys and interviews. I would like to survey 50 college students at UCF who have declared majors. The age and year of the students do not matter. I will ask them their major and then ask them to rate how much certain factors influenced them in their career decision. The factors will be things such as money, parents, and teachers. I also want to interview 2-3 students who are now at UCF who had to declare majors in the 9th grade. I want to know if they thought it was beneficial, whether they stuck with the major they chose then, and so on.
ReplyDeleteOriginally my question for my research was "How does being an only child affect development as adults," but I have realized that that question is too broad and holds too many variables and not enough research to hold any argument. Instead, I will be focusing on how certain aspects of being an only child affects an adult in a specific way. I am narrowing down the aspects of children and focusing on a heavily researched perspective of how it affects that child as an adult. For example, instead of looking at the personalities of only children and describing how they grow and affect what that child is like as an adult, I will be focusing specifically on how the development of a child's personality is related to their parents and how it affects them as an adult.
ReplyDeleteI plan to study adult only children. I will interview the only children I know and will post on blogs / social media sites to get the opinions of those I don't know. I am very limited in who I can interview, seeing as only children are rare. However, I hope to gather specific opinions and stories that will help strengthen my paper.
My research paper topic is cyber bullying and the effects social media has had on it. My paper consists of two main questions, What effect has social media had on cyber bullying? And, What is being done to stop it? I arrived at these two questions because it allows me to open up my research and find many sources that allow me to narrow down my topics and really investigate my topic deeper.
ReplyDeleteMy own research will consist of a survey that will address my gap. I want to gain data from people that are victims of cyber bullying and those that have been bullies themselves.
The survey will be 5 questions long and then post it to twitter and then I will conduct interviews with some of my peers and hope to fill my gaps.
1) Your research question:
ReplyDeleteWith the infectious "CSI Effect" prevalent in the many fans of popular crime scene investigation shows, how does this affect jurors in real life criminal cases?
My main idea for this project hasn't shifted much from its original topic, though I've branched out to include the counterargument, which includes the effect on prosecutors in criminal cases. There has been much research done on this topic from many different angles, so I would like to contribute to the conversation since it is one that has always interested me.
12) The data you plan to collect to answer the question--ie, who you plan to study.
I plan to study college students, people over the age of 18, people who can vote, and, if possible, older people that have been chosen for jury duty or have been on a jury. I also plan on us intestinal analysis.
3) How you will go about doing that research. Be as specific as possible about the number of research subjects, how the research subjects will be chosen, and what you will do (interview, survey, observation, focus group, and so on).
I plan to have people fill out a questionnaire for those who prefer to write out their answers. I will also attempt to conduct personal interviews for those who prefer to share out loud.
I plan to get at least 20 people in total to participate, hopefully from each category I have planned out.
My research question analyzes the perceptions that the youth and this generation have toward the new Pope. I originally was going to do it in normal congregations, but i figured my research would to better with staying inside the college campus. I realized this after I decided that since the Pope is appealing to the younger demographic with his views on new topics i should mainly stay and represent in that area. The research i would do would be different from others because instead of a full congregation I can gain a new view from an age range of 18-25.
ReplyDeleteMy research would be collected from students within a catholic congregation on campus and i would gain original data from surveys and then eventually lead on into a focus group. The survey would contain 10-20 questions both open ended and yes or no based questions. Then from those surveys i would take 5-6 students with similar and different views and do a focus group that would being to start showing the opposing views and take down notes and quotes from the group to use.
My research question seeks to identify in the differences of which men and women communicate as well as what different qualities each gender seeks in a partner. At first I wanted to research what exactly caused different communication barriers in the cross gender relationships but i realized that it would be very hard to identify WHAT especially since there’s probably a variety of reasons each specific to a certain relationship, and to be honest the couple probably doesn’t realize what causes their miscommunication because if they did they most likely wouldn’t miscommunicate. I plan to study about 3 couples and do separate surveys as well to men and women about the qualities they seek in a relationship and what would make them happy.
ReplyDeleteI will provide an interview and 10 question survey and I will ask the same questions to all subjects, after completing the survey I will then make the subjects fill out the survey again but this time in the way of which they would expect the opposite gender to fill out the survey. This survey will allow me to compare the wants and desires of what satisfies each gender in a relationship as well as what they believe the opposite gender wants.
Research Proposal
ReplyDeleteThe research question I am exploring is: What are the prevailing factors that influence major/career related choices and promote satisfaction in these choices. The audience I wish to reach in this analysis is a college aged body of people, who wish to gain knowledge in how to better their decision making ability when it comes to choosing a major or career field, and do so in a way that will grant them satisfaction down the road. Many questions arise though, when trying to locate the gaps in the information, each having an aspect tying the specific inquiry to several different discourses. Though the topic that seems to unite all of the questions together: how to gain a higher sense of satisfaction from ones career, seems to be equally related to decision making process. It plays a role in every aspect of aspiring, goal setting, and planning to achieve something. I wish to reduce that gap within the conversation on how to better ones decision making process geared toward satisfaction in career and major by determining what parts of the decision making process present a level of difficulty for most people. In an effort to determine what the common flaws are and ultimately propose an improved model of decision making that will make it easier for students to regulate the factors that influence their major and career choices so that long term satisfaction with their choices can be reached.
I will do this by conducting a survey of 30 randomly chosen college students of varying demographic characteristics. The students will be asked a series of questions about how they conduct their decision making process, whether they are indecisive or not, where they struggle in the decision making process, how they feel their decision making could be improved, etc. After collecting the data from the test subjects, I will analyze the feedback and determine the common responses to the questions asked. Based on this analysis I will develop a series of corrections formed with influence from the Self-Regulated Model of Decision Making (HaeYoung 2013). I will aim to improve the decision making process in such a way that one may be more likely to experience satisfaction with their career/major related decisions.
I would like to research two questions that I have noticed are missing from my research. As i researched the lack of Lgbtq information in schools I noticed that have had attempts made and ideas how to integrate this, but these were too generalizing. I would like to see how the terms and labels of being gay, lesbian bisexual or transexual to be to limiting and if people within the community dislike these labels and the box they put them in. Would they prefer it to be more general to encompass all and do they want to avoid being assigned to just be one thing. Another question that I haven't seen discussed and that i find could be related to the limitations facing the gay rights movement is the stigma within the gay community between those who are "out of the closet" and those who are still closed off about their sexuality. I would like to see if those who are openly gay have any opinions and see if there is any pressure on those who are in the closet to come out. Also if there is an additional pressure incurred on those relationships between partners that have one in the closet or both and if there is a constant fear of accidentally outing their partner.
ReplyDeleteI plan to study those who associate themselves with some of the on campus gay communities. I plan on doing this by giving them a questionnaire to start and giving an additional option for people to have an even more depth interview later if they choose to. I would like a sample between 15-25 people to get a wide range of opinions and i hope i am able to survey those who are in the closet and those who are openly gay. I recognize that i will have a limited age demographic, but i hope this will be a good stating point for my own research.
After analyzing all articles and studies done on the views of naturopathic medicine, it is evident that while naturopathic and alternative medicine is becoming more widely used, it still faces some obstacles and skepticism preventing it to become more mainstream. Some of these obstacles include lack of licensure among all states, lack of advertisement and practices, and lack of respect due to a shortage on evidence-based research to support it. There also have only been studies on people who have used naturopathic medicine, so my research focuses on peoples' perspectives who have not had any experiences with it. Essentially if more physicians were able to become licensed and practice, there is more of a possibility that research could be developed and as a result more people might be open to trying it.Some of my research questions include: Since the government plays a key role within healthcare licensure it might be interesting to study what individual political affiliations are associated with people willing to try naturopathic medicine and people unwilling to try it? How do normal people who have not used naturopathic medicine view it? how do individuals normally go about choosing a doctor?since this could help in their ways of advertising as well. Some individuals also might not even be aware that they have the option of choosing this alternative form of medicine either. I plan on surveying at least 20-25 random people of different age groups to gain this information.
ReplyDeleteAt first my research question was on whether the Joker was a psychopath but after research and talking to my professor it moved to whether the Joker is a psychopath, sociopath, or sane. Looking thorough my sources I found it interesting how people switched between sociopath and psychopath to describe the Joker and when I looked closely at their definitions I could see why people would do so, both are very similar and both represent the Joker very well until I started to find sources saying that the Joker was actually sane. Now that I have been opened to different possibilities on what the Joker could be I started to direct my research on how the Joker has been seen and what he is today.
ReplyDeleteI plan collecting information on how people see him, how they would diagnose him, and if they fear the Joker. I’m more interested on why they have those opinions to see if it reflects one of my hypothesis that says the Joker is sane and he represents today’s society at its worst. I plan on collecting my information in a focus group since my audience would have to be preferably knowledgeable about the Joker to collect better answers and explanations. In my focus group I plan to have about 5 people to discuss the Joker’s mental state with.
Realizing a survey would be too random across the board, I decided to analyze. My research plan is to analyze the three major religions, their modest clothing requirements, and biblical reasoning, I will also analyze feminists and their ideas of a female empowering outfit.
