Working with human subjects can be tricky business, but luckily for
us, you will not be poking or prodding any of your research subjects (so
there should be minimal risk to those you plan to interview, survey, or
experiment with).
With that said, it is still
critical that you disclose information to the human subjects you are
working with. Universities have developed an Internal Review Board (IRB)
system to make sure researchers comply with local, state, and federal
ethics standards. As students who are in a first-year writing course,
you do not have to complete IRB training to work with human subjects,
but it is critically important that you disclose your intentions in
writing to the people you are working with.
Please review the following information provided by Colorado State University:
http://writing.colostate.edu/guides/page.cfm?pageid=1426
Upon
reviewing the link above, you are tasked with developing an informed
consent disclosure form to give to any participants you are studying.
The site above gives plenty of information about what should appear in
your disclosure form. Participants should sign the form and return it to
you. You should provide each participant with an additional copy
if said participant wants it for his/her records.
If your research involves textual analysis and you are not working with human subjects, please write a detailed outline about how your textual analysis will work.
I recommend you create your disclosure form as a word document and then paste it into the text box of this blog space.

How Animal Rights Propaganda Affects The Progression Of The Movement
Purpose & Explanation
The research requires that the subjects observe a series of videos depicting animal rights propaganda as well as read some article concerning animal rights legislation and portrayals of animals within the media. They will then be asked a series of questions within a focus group setting and are free to discuss among themselves to spur conversation about what they had just been exposed to. The point of the focus group is to record reactions and responses regarding the effectiveness of the types of propaganda given to the participants. The focus group shouldn’t last longer than 30 minutes and records of participants’ responses will be anonymous.
Participant Agreement
If you feel uncomfortable with any of the questions, comments, or conversation that comes up during the focus group, you are not required to provide further information regarding the material presented to you. You may stop your participation in the research study at any given time with no questions asked.
The benefit that may be derived from participating in this study is to increase the education of people that are unaware of animal welfare organizations. This study is also designed to highlight which forms of propaganda resonate the most with people are most effective in delivering their desired message.
Your participation in the focus group is completely voluntary. Should you have to leave at any time, you are able to do so with no questions asked. Any of the data collected from the focus group has the potential to be used within my research project should the participant allow me to do so and stay for the duration of the focus group.
The research study has been explained to me and I voluntarily consent to participate. I know that I may leave or dismiss any of the questions or responses from others during any part of the focus group. I also realize that my answers could be recorded within a research project and that I have the opportunity to leave at any point during the research study. Should you have any further questions regarding the research study you may feel free to contact either me or Joseph Longhany at any time.

I am an undergraduate student at UCF and I am in an English Composition (ENC 1102) course, in which we are doing a research paper. I am researching the different factors that cause communication barriers between different genders in relationships and what can be done to diminish these barriers.
During this study I will be conducting observations based on how you and your significant other act towards each other versus how you both act when you are around friends of the same gender. After this observation I will be asking you a few interview questions in order to better understand each genders stance in the communication process. This interview should last, at most, ten minutes, however, if you would like to elaborate and go into more detail during this interview, the given time is flexible. If there are any questions that you choose not to answer, all you have to do is tell me and that question will be skipped.
During this observation and interview process, all information may be used in my research paper, however your identity will be confidential. The only persons who will know your identity is myself and the instructor given above. Upon finishing this research, all information will be discarded and demolished.

Participant’s Agreement:
I am aware that I am being observed and interviewed voluntarily and I am willing to partake in this research process. If I become uncomfortable, I am aware that I can end the interview at any time and that if I decide I don’t want my information used, I can request that it be discarded. I understand the basis on which this research is being conducted and that my identity will be kept confidential, with the exception of the researcher and the researcher’s instructor.
I understand that all observations and interview questions will be recorded and could be used in a presentation in front of people.
